Company

Founded in 1997, Visus Photonics Ltd is the leader in advanced LED and conventional Illumination technologies. The company designs and manufactures a line of products that are currently used in a variety of consumer, industrial and military products, such as LCD Backlighting Units (BLU) and LED powered devices for display, illumination, signage, automotive, telecommunications, and medical applications. Its flagship line of technologies leverage a patented ExFRACTOR™ multilayer waveguides with distributed extractors, efficient ultra-thin HOW™ Hybrid Optical Waveguides and TilEx™modular backlights for mid-large format LCD and LCD TV for backlighting and other key applications, ultra-thin flexible “Flat Fiber” for keypad & full keyboard backlighting, special FoCOUPLER™ foconic optical couplers for LEDs enabling to improve the luminous efficacy of LEDs by several times and obtain uniform area lighting in any desired color and a variety of special lighting effects. Visus also offers a number of light enhancing components (BEFs etc.), SADO™ Stacked Amplifying Directional Optical Transflector Film and SHUTLE™ Shaped Hollow Ultra-Thin Luminance Enhancement Film with improved diffusion and collimating power.

Unlike most of other companies Visus is not a “one – product” company and offers a complete range of technologies for virtually all LED markets including LED chip and lamp design. A control of a complete “photon supply chain” starting from an optimized photon generation and extraction at LED level and down to secondary light management optics enables to attain maximal performance not possible when considering only one system component, e.g. LED, lightguide panel or BEF.

Proven track record. Visus has been at a cradle of inventing a number of key optical systems and components which have turned into core technologies in LCD and lighting industries. In mid 80’s it pioneered a development of light guides with distributed light extractors turned later into an indispensable core component of all LCD backlights. It also used for the first time 3M’s SOLF (developed for a totally different application, namely hollow tubular light guides) for LCD backlights. Later it became known as BEF, another core component used in every LCD. In a general lighting first computer generated asymmetrical reflectors (car headlights, road & projection lighting) have been licensed by Visus. Today many of European cities and highways are lighted by these uniquely optimized reflectors. In Visual Ergonomics our methods based on Visual Field Visibility analysis have become a standard approach for Visual Performance evaluation recommended by CIE, IPS and other international standard organizations.

Through its pioneering use of materials, optical architecture and light source couplings, Visus offers cost-effective, low-profile, and versatile FIDs (Flat Illumination Device) with incredibly low power for a variety of applications transcending the limits of traditional illumination. Visus BLU and LED technology is used today in diversified products ranging from UHB (Ultra High Bright) BLUs for large special purpose fully ruggedized sunlight readable avionic displays to millions BLUs for small and micro-displays from leading global mass market consumer and specialty products companies.

By designing assemblies and subassemblies that utilize novel photonic design and proprietary manufacturing technology Visus endeavors to continue to optimize output and performance of existing and future illumination, backlighting and LED devices and adapt them for high volume manufacturing and to offer them to the market through established contract manufacturers and distributors at competitive price points

The company forges a growing patent portfolio encompassing a large number of emerging FID and LED manufacturing technologies with a wide-ranging product development, OEM and licensing opportunities.

The company  has been incorporated in 2003 in the State of Israel with its headquarters in Tel Aviv and has exclusive control of IP portfolio of its predecessor Visus ltd incorporated in 1997
